Irish language committee met twice in 2011

Recommended Posts

A committee set up to monitor and implement the Government's 20-year-long 'Strategy for the Irish Language' has met only twice in the past year.

The committee, which is under the chairmanship of the Taoiseach Enda Kenny, last met in May 2011.

The Department of Arts Heritage and Gaeltacht confirmed to RTÉ Nuacht that no date has been fixed for the next meeting of the Government committee.

However Minister of State Dinny McGinley said the Government is determined to implement the strategy and less formal meetings have taken place with the Taoiseach in relation to it.

Deputy McGinley added that the next inter-departmental meeting on the strategy is due to take place in June.
