Ukraine’s autonomous region of Crimea has nationalized all Ukrainian state property after declaring independence from the Eastern European country.

Crimea’s Supreme Council (parliament) announced on Monday that all Ukrainian state property on the Black Sea peninsula, including major oil and gas companies, will belong to Crimea.

The Crimean parliament passed the decree on Monday after all the 85 lawmakers present in the 100-seat assembly voted in support of seceding from Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Crimea's lawmakers declared the Russian ruble as the peninsula's second official currency and vowed to disband the Ukrainian military units stationed across the peninsula.

Authorities in the region say Moscow has sent Crimea over USD 400 million in financial assistance in response to the vote.
