The Art of Richard J. King

Recommended Posts

Richard Joseph King was born in Castlebar, County Mayo, in 1907. His father was an RIC man. He studied art at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art in the late 1920s. He painted many pictures, and was renowned for his stain glass windows. He also designed a series of stamps. He died in 1974. I really like his style. It is very typical of the 1930s in many ways. It has the heroic feeling of Socialist Realism, but mixed with a particularly Irish romanticism. Below are some examples of this work.
