DPRK Day of Persons with Disabilities

Fodla, what are your views on the DPRK?

Obviously all we get here about it is propoganda, but do you consider it a socialist state? I know next to nothing about it but cant see workers having too much say about what goes in their workplaces or the country. Also, the leadership cult is very strange (nearly as strange of the Windsor cult in England) and the heridatary nature of the regime is surely conflicting with socialism.

I think there are certainly a lot of problems with the DPRK, and I'd certainly like to see a lot more workers democracy. The cult of personality is a very deep question. I'm not sure its as harmful as people make out. Hegel said that the best kind of king is a complete idiot, who has no real power. Well, the leaders of the DPRK are not idiots, but they certainly play to up some sort of comic image. I dont think Kim Jong Un himself has much power. He is more of a figurehead for the regime. But, all in all, I'd rather have Kim Jong Un as head of state than rats like Bertie Ahern or Enda Kenny. Also, I do believe that society in the DPRK is more healthy than in South Korea.

Well, as I said, I know next to nothing about the DPRK so I will reserve judgment! Its not the just the personality thing though that would bother me but the fact that it seems that the top job there is heridatary. I think that is quite damaging.

I do find it strange though that so many people ridicule the personality cult there but will watch the BBC with their reporters outside some London hospital giving updates about a preganant womans morning sickness. I believe the Daily Mails Headline was 'A nation rejoices' when news of the latest parasitic Windsors arrival was made public.
