Butoh Dance

Butoh, meaning "dance" in Japanese, is a style of Japanese dance founded after student riots in 1959 against US occupation and influence. It was founded by Tatsumi Hijikata, who felt that the Japanese people were losing what it meant to even be Japanese. The style owes a lot to the attitude and movements of Noh dance, but is very flexible and capable of expressing man's modern condition. First I will give an example of Hijikata himself dancing, and then give more recent examples:
