Summer Brew!

Recommended Posts

OK a chairde, summer is here (as if you'd be able to tell)

We have a near full range of beers, cider and wine available for the summer, with reserves brewing away to ensure that we have stock all summer. We have begun branding our different types, with colour coded bottle caps for easy recognition.

We have the following types available:

  • Pilsner (Blue) - This is the attempt at the Spaten clone (rather than the first pilsner that we tried), which while it doesn't taste much of spaten has a refreshing Saaz hops taste and is perfect for a summer lager. Approx 5.5%
  • Cider (Green) - A sweet Apple & Pear cider, Approx 6%
  • Winter Beer (Purple) - A Smithwicks type ale, Approx 4%
  • Wheat Beer (White) - A clear wheat beer, slightly sweet with a crisp finish, best served freezing cold, Approx 5.5%
  • Ginger Beer (Orange) - Cloudy sweet alcoholic ginger beer, Approx 3.5%
  • Sout (Black) - Old style stout, full bodied flavoursome and refreshing, great served at room temperature or after hard day's community gardening, Approx 4.5%

  • Cabernet Sauvingnon - Approx 10% (only couple bottles left, but will be re-stocked in a few few weeks)
  • Country Red Wine - Approx 10%
  • Chardonnay (Standard) - Approx 10% (only couple bottles left, but will be re-stocked in a few weeks)
  • Chardonnay (Special) - Approx 11%, slightly sweeter than our standard, buttery tones (oooo, la di da!!!)

We also have a Mexican style cerveza brewing at the minute, should be ready in a couple of weeks with its lovely yellow bottle caps!!

Contributions of 5 Euro will get soviet members or friends 2 bottles of wine, 6x500ml bottles of beer/cider or 9x330ml bottles of beer/cider, or a mixture of the above.

And I would remind everyone that the whole purpose of this project is to de-commodify the alcohol that we're drinking. Its really quite simple to make and can be made by anyone.

If we had a few different people brewing, the surplus that each of us is making can be made available to other brewing groups, in an exercise of un-commodified exchange.

We also offer bulk batches of any of the above products, or indeed any other kind of beer/wine/cider that's within our capacity to make. If you'd like batches (usually 23 litres) at cost price all you have to do is offer an hour of your time to help bottle the batch when its finally ready, although you're more than welcome to help at any stage of the process.

It would be hard to get such a choice of craft beers and wines on a night out, and they woudl certainly cost you an awful lot more than those prices.

We have a new addition to our collection, with a lovely silver cap!!

It is another pilsner type beer, but we have used Hallertau Mittlefruh hops to finish it instead of the Saaz hops that we used for regular Pilsner (blue caps). It has a definite distinctive taste, much more aromatic than the blue cap version. We split the batch into two and hopped one with the Saaz hops, so we have half a batch of blue and half a batch of the new silver ones, so any Pilsner lovers out there interested in having a selection, give me a shout. Our usual contribution of 8x500ml bottles for a fiver applies!

All of the other beers are also available (including our Mexican cerveza), and we have plenty of our regular Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon too.
